Biography

Luis Rios is director of photography for the Miami Herald and photo editor at Iris Photo Collective. He has been with the Herald since March, 2003, and has worked with Iris Photo Collective since 2004.

Rios formerly worked with the Washington Post where he served as the newspaper's night photo editor. He worked with photographers Carol Guzy, Lucian Perkins and Michael Williamson when the trio won the Pulitzer Prize in Feature photography for their work in Kosovo in 1999. Rios worked as a news editor at the Post from 1989 until 1996 when he was named night picture editor. He had previously worked as a news editor for the Detroit Free Press, the Dallas Morning News and the San Antonio Light. Rios has edited numerous national award-winning photographers at the Washington Post and the Miami Herald. Rios is a member of the National Press Photographers Association and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
